Springtime then appeared in Mārkaṇḍeya’s āśrama. Indeed, the evening sky, glowing with the light of the rising moon, became the very face of spring, and sprouts and fresh blossoms virtually covered the multitude of trees and creepers.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Springtime, whose face was the rising moon at night, endowed with a network of trees and creepers protecting the moon rays and endowed with clumps of flowers, made its appearance in the hermitage. Spring had night as its face with a rising moon. The spring was endowed with a network of creepers and trees which protected the rays of the moon (gopa) and was endowed with lines of flower clumps.
