  • vaidarbhi — O princess of Vidarbha
Patronymic: of Vidarbha (her father Bhīṣmaka's kingdom). He addresses her by her birth-place, reinforcing the social-mismatch frame He is building — she is of royal stock; He pretends He is not.
  • adīrgha-samīkṣayā — without long-range vision
Compound: a-dīrgha (not long) + samīkṣā (looking). The accusation of short-sightedness is delivered to the seer of all — the irony is hairsbreadth: Bhagavān, who alone sees all time, charges His all-seeing consort with myopia.
O Vaidarbhī, not being farsighted, you didn’t realize this, and therefore you chose Us as your husband, even though We have no good qualities and are glorified only by deluded beggars.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
O Vaidarbhī, not being farsighted, you didn't realize this, and therefore you chose Us as your husband, even though We have no good qualities and are glorified only by deluded beggars.
Commentary

"I have been accepted by you as husband, because you are short sighted (adirgha samiksa), not considering the overall picture."

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

He summarizes his point. Not considering carefully all that I have said (etat) you chose me. “You are endowed with all good qualities by your nature. Hearing that (SB 10.52.37), I understood all about you.” I was praised by persons simply because they were greedy for money. O princes from Vidarbha, you heard from a great distance away. It should not be said that in giving them money I showed the quality of generosity, because I, being a fool (mūḍhāh), made people praise me out of greed for you, though not having a desire for money.

Related verses

A king in beggar's robes mocks his queen: 'Short-sighted of you to marry a man with no good qualities, praised only by deluded mendicants.' The robes are His choice; the deluded mendicants are the great sages; the queen is Lakṣmī herself. The verse drips with pralambha.
