Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.47.55
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
kṣaṇa-prāyāṇi
—
passing like a moment
Compound: kṣaṇa (instant) + prāyāṇi (like). Time-compression as a symptom of rasa. Bhāgavatam uses the same phrase for the rāsa-līlā night in SB 10.33 — by yoga-māyā, one night became a brahma-rātra.
-
kṛṣṇasya vārtayā
—
by the discussions about Kṛṣṇa
Instrumental: kṛṣṇasya + vārtayā (by news, talk). Vārtā as kṛṣṇa-kathā. Gauḍīyas note: even the casual word vārtā becomes sacred when its content is Kṛṣṇa. Bhakti dignifies its instruments.
-
vraja-okasām
—
for the residents of Vraja
Compound: vraja + okasām (dwellers). The vraja-okas — those who make Vraja their home. Gauḍīya theology distinguishes vraja-okas (eternal residents) from vraja-vāsīs (occasional visitors). The former is the higher status.
The inhabitants of Vraja felt the time pass in moment in the presence of Uddhava. The name Uddhava means extreme bliss, and as well Krnsa had bestowed upon him his sakti to produce bliss. Thus the inhabitants felt time pass in a moment because of the extreme bliss, personified in Uddhava.
The situation is further described in two verses.
Uddhava, whose glories were previously described or giving joy to Gokula (saḥ), stayed for many days, which were like one moment for the people of Vraja. Why? Because of the narrations of Kṛṣṇa’s pastimes told by him or them (kṛṣṇasya vārtayā). By their nature or because those topics produced the highest bliss
All Uddhava's days in Vraja passed as a single kṣaṇa for the residents. Time bends in Kṛṣṇa-kathā: months become moments, and a moment of mādhurya extends into nitya-līlā. Gauḍīyas read this as the temporal signature of bhakti — kāla loses its grip when Kṛṣṇa is the subject.
