Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.82.28
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
janma-bhājaḥ
—
having taken a worthwhile birth
Compound: janma (birth) + bhājaḥ (partaker of). A 'birth that shares in something worthwhile' — Gauḍīyas read this as proximity to bhagavad-bhaktas or Bhagavān Himself. Mere human birth is not enough.
-
durdarśam
—
rarely seen
Compound: dur (difficult) + darśam (seeing). Kṛṣṇa is durdarśa even for yogīs — they see Paramātmā within, but not the full Person. The Vṛṣṇis see Him in His Bhagavān-form. Bhāgavata's three-tier realisation (Brahman, Paramātmā, Bhagavān) is operative here.
-
asakṛt
—
repeatedly
Compound: a (not) + sakṛt (once). Not once but again and again. The everyday continuity of darśana — Vraja's gift to its residents, Dvārakā's gift to the Bhojas. Gauḍīyas long for this same nitya-darśana.
-
bhoja-pate
—
O master of the Bhojas
Vocative compound: bhoja (the clan) + pate (lord). Ugrasena addressed. His clan name 'Bhoja' shares its root with bhoga — but the verse subtly redirects: real bhoga is having Kṛṣṇa, not enjoyment of the world.
The kings address Ugrasena since he was recognized as the leader, being the king of the Yadus, or because they treated him with respect as a king, equal to themselves. Aho indicates respect or amazement. It is rare that yogīs like the Kumāras can see Kṛṣṇa directly even once, and after great difficulties.
Yogis climb the mountain for decades hoping for one glimpse of the summit's flag; the king of Bhojas walks his own house and sees Bhagavān every morning. Birth in His circle is more valuable than any yogic attainment.
Ugrasena, Kaṁsa's father, had been deposed and imprisoned by his own son. When Kṛṣṇa killed Kaṁsa (SB 10.44), He immediately restored Ugrasena to the throne of Mathurā and offered Him daily respect as His elder.
Gauḍīyas read this verse as the kings' recognition that Ugrasena's birth, on which he himself never reflected, was extraordinarily blessed — he sees Kṛṣṇa repeatedly, durdarśam api yoginām. The yogīs' object of distant meditation is Ugrasena's son-in-law's nephew, sitting next to him at dinner.
