  • pratibodhitā — enlightened / awakened
Past participle of prati-√budh. Awakened toward. The same root as Buddha, but used in Gauḍīya texts for the specific awakening that comes through hearing from a sādhu — śravaṇa-jaagati. Rukmiṇī wakes by hearing.
  • tanvī — slender-waisted
Same body-class word as su-madhyamā (v. 4). Vyāsa returns to the slim-waisted epithet — closing the frame opened in v. 4 where Rukmiṇī first looked at Kṛṣṇa's face in fear. There she trembled; here she steadies.
  • vaimanasyam — her depression / down-mindedness
From vimanas (low-spirited). Same word-family as daurmana-syam (v. 11, of Śiśupāla). The Bhāgavatam contrasts: Jarāsandha's words could not lift Śiśupāla's vaimanasya; Balarāma's words instantly lift Rukmiṇī's. Difference of speaker is difference of medicine.
  • buddhyā — by intelligence
Instrumental of buddhi. The Gītā's preferred faculty: buddhi-yoga (BG 2.39). Balarāma's discourse is buddhi-yoga in compressed form — and Rukmiṇī applies it instantly. The verse models the listener's responsiveness.
  • samādadhe — she composed
Reflexive past of sam-ā-√dhā. Same root as samādhi. The Bhāgavatam grants Rukmiṇī a samādhi — composing-the-self — by mere hearing. Bhakti's samādhi does not require austerity-of-body; only attention to the Vaiṣṇava's words.
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Thus enlightened by Lord Balarāma, slender Rukmiṇī forgot her depression and steadied her mind by spiritual intelligence.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Thus enlightened by Lord Balarāma, slender Rukmiṇī forgot her depression and steadied her mind by spiritual intelligence.
Commentary

"What will people say about me?" Giving up this depression (vaimanasyam), she collected herself.

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Rukmiṇī responded accordingly. Since she is by her nature the form of the great cit śakti, she is eternally intelligent. Because of that relationship she can enlighten even Saṅkarṣaṇa. Thus her enlightenment (pratibodhitā) by Balarāma was an exchange with him, a response like an echo.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

She was thin (tanvī) because of lamentation. Or her thin waist indicates her great beauty. His words enlightened her. Otherwise should be not be beautiful. Lamentation would destroy her beauty. She was taught directly (pratibodhitāḥ) because Balarāma was omniscient (bhagavatā), knowing the intention of Kṛṣṇa. Rāmena means “by he who gives happiness.” She concentrated her mind constantly on Kṛṣṇa in prema (samādadhe).

Related verses

Like a kṛṣṇa-devotee whose grief is dispelled the moment śāstra is heard from a sādhu, Rukmiṇī steadies her mind by buddhi. The Bhāgavatam's everyday miracle: hearing from a Vaiṣṇava is not entertainment, it is intervention — the mind shifts shape on contact.
