Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.47.51
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
gatyā lalitayā
—
by His charming gait
Instrumental: gatyā (by gait) + lalitayā (charming). The lalita-gati — Kṛṣṇa's tribhaṅga walk. Rūpa Gosvāmī devotes whole sections of Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu to the analysis of Kṛṣṇa's lalita anubhāvas.
-
udāra-hāsa
—
generous smile
Compound: udāra (generous) + hāsa (smile). The Kṛṣṇa-smile that withholds nothing — the white-toothed laughter that becomes lightning in the gopīs' chests. A distinct mādhurya anubhāva.
-
līlā-avalokanaiḥ
—
by playful glances
Compound: līlā (play) + avalokanaiḥ (glances). The avalokana that does līlā — the playful, sidelong, mock-shy glance that constitutes half the rāsa-līlā. Catalogued by Rūpa Gosvāmī as the kaṭākṣa.
-
mādhvyā girā
—
by honeylike words
Instrumental: mādhvyā (honey-sweet) + girā (words). Madhura-gira — sweet speech. The fourth anubhāva. Gauḍīyas note: gait, smile, glance, speech — Kṛṣṇa is irresistible through all four channels.
“Covering your eyes with a cloth, controlling the mind by the intelligence, forgetting everything, you can then forget him.” Our hearts have been stolen by the charming movements of his limbs (gatyā), by his excellent smile and playful glances. These items indicate his special love for us. The plural is used to indicate that he smiled and glanced at each of the gopīs individually. His words were sweet by sound and by meaning. By these three means (movement, love and words) our intelligence has been stolen. By what means can we forget his friendship or his movements, love and words? There is no way. Or, please teach us some other way.
His walk, His smile, His glances, His honey-words — each one stole their heart. The gopīs catalog the theft. Gauḍīyas note that the four — gati, hāsa, avalokana, gir — are the central anubhāvas of mādhurya in Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu.
