  • rathāt — from his chariot
Ablative of ratha. The chariot that has framed the whole chapter — vehicle of office, vehicle of inner monologue, vehicle of approach — is finally abandoned. Gauḍīyas read this as the moment outer means is exchanged for direct contact.
  • tūrṇam — quickly
Without delay — completing the sapadi (v.15) Akrūra had rehearsed. The chapter pairs its tempo-words carefully: bhakti's body, when the moment arrives, moves at no other speed.
  • sneha — by affection
Sneha — the loving moisture of relationship, between vātsalya and prema in the rasa-ladder. Gauḍīyas place sneha as a specific intensification of rati within the developmental ladder of bhāva-bhakti (cf. BRS).
  • vihvalaḥ — overcome
From vi + √hval — to be agitated, undone. One of the bodily marks of bhāva-bhakti — the body's coherence fails when the rasa exceeds its container. Gauḍīyas regard vaivalya as a high-grade symptom, not a malfunction.
  • papāta — fell
Third person aorist of √pat. Akrūra falls — literally, the verb of dropping. Gauḍīyas read this as the bodily form of śaraṇa-patti: the surrender posture is achieved by the body no longer holding itself up.
  • daṇḍa - vat — flat like a rod
Compound: daṇḍa (rod, staff) + vat (-like). Daṇḍavat-praṇāma — the full prostration, body extended like a stick. Gauḍīyas hold daṇḍavat as the most complete external praṇāma; the rod-image emphasizes the body's surrender of its segmentation.
Akrūra, overwhelmed with affection, quickly jumped down from his chariot and fell at the feet of Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma like a rod.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Akrūra, overwhelmed with affection, quickly jumped down from his chariot and fell at the feet of Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma like a rod.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

When he came near, he jumped down from the chariot and, walking a few steps forward, fell down close to the feet of Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma, because he was bewildered by intense prema in dāsya-bhāva (sneha-vihvalaḥ). The meaning is this. When Akrūra first saw Kṛṣṇa, he did not jump off his chariot because of the bewilderment of his prema. By that bewilderment, he was not aware whether he was on the chariot or on the ground, and with mind and eyes attracted to that form he attained a more favorable view as the chariot pulled by the horses, moved quickly towards the Lord. As he got closer, the same bewilderment of prema was the cause of his jumping from the chariot. When he was far away he did not realize he was in a higher position in the chariot. When he got close he realized this. Recovering awareness, he developed respect, and thus jumped from the chariot. Though it was not proper from him to offer respects on the ground since he was a senior, he did so because of the bewilderment of prema.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

He who for a long time desired to see the two boys in Gokula or he who had developed many desires (saḥ) fell on the ground somewhat near their feet, without consideration of rules, because he was confused by prema. Balarāma is mentioned first because Balarāma as the eldest was situated in front when they came forward to meet Akrūra.

Bhava

The body that had carried Akrūra all day collapses the instant it sees its destination — like a pilgrim who walks for weeks and then falls at the temple gate because the legs no longer have any reason to keep him up. The chariot is forgotten; the daṇḍa-praṇāma is the only physics left to him.
