  • airāvatam — named Airāvata
Indra's celestial elephant, churned from the milk ocean. A symbol of devatā opulence — and the Bhāgavatam everywhere shows such opulence (1.8.26) becomes the obstruction to recognizing Bhagavān. The mount is the disease.
  • vrajam — to Vraja
From √vraj — to move, to wander. Vraja is the cowherd region of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes; in Gauḍīya theology it is the highest dhāma, the seat of mādhurya-rasa. Indra's choice of target unwittingly names the supreme abode.
  • marut - gaṇaiḥ — with the wind-gods
marut (wind) + gaṇa (host). The maruts are demigods born from Diti's penance, ultimately governed by Viṣṇu. Indra borrows the Lord's own servants to attack the Lord's own home — the līlā's emblem of misapplied power.
  • jighāṁsayā — with intent to kill
Desiderative of √han (to kill). The grammar names the hostile intention itself; in śāstra such intent against devotees is the highest aparādha. Vāmana once stepped over Indra's grandfather Bali — and Indra has learned nothing.
I will follow you to Vraja, riding on my elephant Airāvata and taking with me the swift and powerful wind-gods to decimate the cowherd village of Nanda Mahārāja.

The Sāṁvartaka clouds were frightened by Indra’s powerful mood and thus carried out his order, as described in the following verse.

— A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
I will follow you to Vraja, riding on my elephant Airāvata and taking with me the swift and powerful wind-gods to decimate the cowherd village of Nanda Mahārāja.
Commentary

Indra spoke to the frightened clouds, "I will also come behind you., desiring to destroy (jaghamsaya) the pastures of Nanda." The real meaning is "I am coming, desiring to see the pastures of Nanda."

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

I will come riding on Airāvata since, if you lack water, he can supply it. I will come along with forty-nine winds. He had a desire to destroy Vraja and not Mathurā. This means he desired to become friends with Kaṁsa. The real meaning of jighāṁsayā however is “I will follow you with a desire to see Nanda’s place.”

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

“What can the power of small beings do to me?” I will come after you to Vraja (anuvraje). I will come riding on Airāvata since, if you lack water, he can supply it. I will come along with forty-nine winds to destroy the village of Kṛṣṇa’s father (nanda) or the village of he who takes joy in bhakti or satisfies the world. I will destroy that village (goṣṭha) and not the city of Mathurā. He was afraid of powerful Kaṁsa. This bad decision indicates the inauspicious nature of his journey.

Indra mounts Airāvata and rides toward a boy who once measured the universe in three steps as Vāmana. He brings the wind-gods to a Person from whose breath the wind-gods were born. Every element of the attack is the Lord's own property turned against itself.
