Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.25.16
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
ātma - yogena
—
by My mystic power
ātma (self, own) + yoga (mystic union, power). Not borrowed śakti — Kṛṣṇa's own personal potency. Gauḍīyas read ātma-yoga as svarūpa-śakti, the Lord's intrinsic energy by which the līlās of Vraja unfold.
-
loka - īśa - māninām
—
of those who falsely consider themselves lords of the world
loka-īśa (world-lord) + mānin (one who imagines). The exact disease being treated — devatās who confuse delegated rule for sovereignty. Bg 9.23 also addresses such worship at lower stations. The whole chapter is medicine for this single condition.
-
mauḍhyāt
—
out of foolishness
From mūḍha (deluded). Indra's offense is not malice but mauḍhya — confusion about identity. Gauḍīya tone: most aparādhas arise from mauḍhya, and Kṛṣṇa's response is corrective, not vengeful.
-
haniṣye
—
I shall defeat
Future of √han. Kṛṣṇa announces a destruction — but the object is śrī-madam (pride in opulence), not Indra himself. Gauḍīya reading: the Lord kills the disease and saves the patient. This is the rule of every līlā.
I will remedy the situation through my yogamaya potency (atam yoga). I will remove this false pride in power, in the mode of ignorance, by which they think of themselves as Lords. This verse refers not only to Indra but also the vayu and others who assisted him.
I will counteract this completely—by showing the glory of Govardhana while giving happiness to all. The present tense is used for the near future. I will do this by my yoga-māyā, my natural energy. I will destroy pride in wealth of the controllers of planets arising from foolishness. The plural is used (lokeśa-māninām) to indicate that by punishing Indra he would teach other leaders.
I will counteract this completely—by showing the glory of Govardhana while giving happiness to all. The present tense is used for the near future. In verse 18 Kṛṣṇa vows to protect his devotees. I will destroy the pride in wealth arising from foolishness of those who (each one of them) think that he is the lord of the world. I will do this by my own method, lifting Govardhana as a pastime.
Kṛṣṇa announces: by My ātma-yoga I will counteract this. Not by levying war on Indra, not by counter-clouds — by His personal mystic power, which is intimate, not military. The medicine for inflated devatā-māna is not punishment but a small boy lifting a mountain with one finger.
