  • gṛha-kṛtyeṣu — in engagement in household affairs
Compound: gṛha (house) + kṛtya (duty, plural locative). Yaśodā's domain. Gauḍīya note: the chapter has shown that household work is itself a stage for līlā; here Yaśodā returns to it while Kṛṣṇa proceeds with the next act.
  • prabhuḥ — the Lord
From √bhū with pra — the prior one, the master. Even bound to the mortar, He remains prabhu — His sovereignty does not lapse during the binding. Gauḍīya: the binding is His sovereignty exercising itself.
  • adrākṣīt — observed
Aorist of √dṛś. The Lord's seeing. Gauḍīya: His glance (kaṭākṣa) is itself salvific; what He sees is already under His mercy. Nalakūvara and Maṇigrīva are now seen — their liberation is already in motion.
  • arjunau — the twin arjuna trees
Two arjuna trees, mythologically identified as Nalakūvara and Maṇigrīva. Gauḍīyas note the irony: the same Arjuna will later be Kṛṣṇa's friend in BG; here arjunau are wood awaiting release.
  • guhyakau — demigods (Yakṣas)
Dual of guhyaka — a class of demigods, attendants of Kuvera. Even celestial beings fall by pride; only the Lord's intervention restores them. Gauḍīya: divinity by status is not protection against mada.
  • dhanada-ātmajau — the sons of Kuvera
Compound: dhana (wealth) + da (giver) + ātmaja (sons). Kuvera, the wealth-giver. Yet wealth's own lineage produces the very pride from which the Lord must rescue them — the chapter's social lesson, set up here.
While mother Yaśodā was very busy with household affairs, the Supreme Lord, Kṛṣṇa, observed twin trees known as yamala-arjuna, which in a former millennium had been the demigod sons of Kuvera.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
While mother Yaśodā was very busy with household affairs, the Supreme Lord, Kṛṣṇa, observed twin trees known as yamala-arjuna, which in a former millennium had been the demigod sons of Kuvera.
Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Though he is exclusively the son of Yaśodā, another incident is narrated to show that he possesses unrestricted knowledge and other powers. Yaśodā bound Kṛṣṇa and he freed others from bondage. The word tu indicates a change of subject. Yaśodā was engaged in constant work (indicated by the plural of “household chores”). She left him and went away since he was in the yard nearby, and as will be mentioned later, other boys stayed there to protect him. She had no worry that he would go elsewhere since she did not think he had the power to pull the mortar or to free himself from the tight knots. Viṣṇu Purāṇa says yadi śakonṣi gaccha tvam aticaṣcala-ceṣṭhitaḥ: if you can, please go, boy with fickle actions! Though he was bound up, he could move. He is independent in moving. Prabhuḥ indicates he was now independent in action or that he was capable of delivering the world, because he was directly bhagavān (krṣṇaḥ). Seeing the two trees, he desired to give them mercy

Even when mother is busy, Kṛṣṇa sees those bound by wealth-pride — His glance toward us begins the work of liberation we cannot start ourselves.
Practical Applications
  • Notice today where wealth, status, or family privilege has made you 'rooted like a tree' — name one such attachment aloud and offer it to Kṛṣṇa.
  • When household duties pull a loved one away, refuse resentment; instead remember Kṛṣṇa's care continues even when human attention cannot.
  • Speak to one person today whom the world has written off as immovable, and serve them as a soul Kṛṣṇa is already eyeing for deliverance.

A surgeon, busy with one patient, glances across the ward and silently marks the patient He will operate on next. The patient knows nothing of the glance; the family is in the corridor. Yet the operation is already underway. Yaśodā is busy in the kitchen; Kṛṣṇa, bound to the mortar, eyes the twin trees. The next deliverance is already scheduled.

Ajāmila's deathbed

Ajāmila, sinful brāhmaṇa, in the moment of death called out 'Nārāyaṇa!' — actually addressing his son. Yet the Lord's glance had already been on him; the four Viṣṇu-dūtas arrived and rescued him (SB 6.1–3).

The Lord works while the household is busy with its affairs. Yaśodā's distraction is not abandonment; it is the cover under which the next līlā proceeds. Gauḍīyas: every 'apparently unattended' soul is already under His eye.
