Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.88.36
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
bhinna-śirāḥ
—
head shattered
Contiguous (bhinna + śirāḥ). Bhinna again — first the dhī shattered (v.35), now the śiras. The Bhāgavatam stages the parallel: when intelligence breaks, the head literally breaks. Inner and outer collapse together.
-
vajra-āhataḥ iva
—
as if struck by a thunderbolt
Contiguous (vajra + āhataḥ + iva). Vajra — Indra's weapon and the standing symbol of indestructible force. The verse names the boon's force as vajra-class — the same speed that made Śiva fear made Vṛka fall.
-
kṣaṇāt
—
in a fraction of a second
Ablative of kṣaṇa. Same sadyaḥ-speed Śiva's blessing-and-curse have always had (v.12) — turned now against the asura who exploited it. The chapter's verdict on speed: cuts both ways.
-
jaya-śabdaḥ
—
the cry of 'Victory!'
Contiguous (jaya + śabdaḥ). The devas' relief, heard from the sky. Gauḍīya reading: when an asura falls by his own asurya and Hari's līlā, the cosmos rejoices — not in cruelty but in restored order.
-
namaḥ-śabdaḥ
—
the cry of 'Obeisances!'
Contiguous (namaḥ + śabdaḥ). Namaḥ rendered to Hari for the rescue. The asura's death-instant is, for the rest of creation, a moment of bowing. Gauḍīyas: every līlā lands as namaḥ in someone's mouth.
After that, with a moment elapsing, his head cracked. After a moment elapsing there were sounds from the sky. After a moment, the devatās who were constantly in fear, shouted “Victory” in order to announce his death. This expressed their joy. The devotees said “Obeisances to you” and they said, “Well done!” in astonishment
None After that, with a moment elapsing, his head cracked. After another moment elapsing, there were sounds from the sky. After a moment, the devatās who were constantly in fear, shouted “Victory” in order to announce his death. This expressed their joy. The devotees said “Obeisances to you” and they said, “Well done!” in astonishment
A man fires a thunderbolt straight up and stands directly beneath it. The chapter closes the geometry it opened: the boon Vṛka asked from Śiva returns through Vṛka's own palm into Vṛka's own crown. Death by his own hand — the literal shape of asurya, exposed.
