  • ātma-anuśāsanam — instruction in the science of the Self
Compound: ātman + anuśāsana (instruction). The technical name of the chapter's whole subject matter. Gauḍīyas: ātman here means both the jīva and the Paramātmā; the science teaches their relation — sambandha-jñāna at its highest.
  • siddhāḥ — perfectly satisfied
Past participle of √sidh (to succeed). The hearers attained siddhi. Gauḍīyas distinguish ordinary siddhi (mystic powers) from the supreme siddhi — kṛṣṇa-prema. The verse's siddhāḥ are siddha in the second sense.
  • sanandanam — the sage Sanandana
Accusative of Sanandana — the chosen speaker. Gauḍīyas honour him as the seer of this chapter. His name comes from nanda (joy) — he is sa-nandana, the bestower of joy, fitting for the speaker of the Veda-stuti.
  • ānarcuḥ — they worshiped
Perfect of ā + √arc (to worship). The very disciples of the speaker worshiped him after hearing — guru-pūjā as the natural response. Gauḍīyas: pūjā of one who carries paramparā is identical with pūjā of Bhagavān (Hari-bhakti-vilāsa).
  • gatim — ultimate destination
From √gam. The gati or destination is Bhagavān Himself, not a state. Gauḍīyas: prayojana-gati — the gati one understands at the conclusion of sambandha is service in Vraja.
The Supreme Lord, Śrī Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi, said: Having heard these instructions about the Supreme Self, the Personality of Godhead, the sons of Brahmā now understood their final destination. They felt perfectly satisfied and honored Sanandana with their worship.

Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī explains that ātmānuśāsanam can be understood both as instructions given to benefit the jīva souls and as instructions about the living entity’s relationship with the foundation of all existence. Similarly, ātmano gatim means both the destination of the jīva soul and the means of reaching the Supreme Soul. By hearing the twenty-eight prayers of the personified Vedas, which comprise the elucidation of the brahmopaniṣat spoken at the beginning of this chapter, the sages assembled in Brahmaloka made great progress toward their goal of pure love of God.

Translation
The Supreme Lord, Śrī Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi, said: Having heard these instructions about the Supreme Self, the Personality of Godhead, the sons of Brahmā now understood their final destination. They felt perfectly satisfied and honored Sanandana with their worship.
Commentary

The sons of Brahma having heard through the twenty eight verses of praises by the Vedas, the elaboration of the brahma upanisad consisting of the second verse of this chapter, instructions on the supreme soul, attained their goal, bhagavat prema, and worshipped Sananda.

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Having attentively heard (āśrutvā) what the śrutis said (evam), teachings for the benefit of the jīva (ātmānuśāsanam), teaching about Svayam Bhagavān, the root form of the Lord and related matters, and therefore understanding the goal of the jīva, or the method of understanding the Lord (ātma-gatim), the sons of Brahmā felt astonishment (siddhāḥ) because of the nature of the descriptions of the Lord’s powers, or felt fully satisfied in all desires.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Thus, or in this way, the sages such as Sanaka (ete) understood. Another version has etat: the sons of Brahmā understood what the śrutis said (etat). It was benefical for the jīvas (ātmānuśāsanam). Thogoughly hearing (āśrutya), understanding the goal of the Lord, perfected in yoga or complete in their desires, they worshipped Sananda.

Hearing the śrutis sung back, the sons of Brahmā understood their final destination and bowed to Sanandana — not because he composed the prayers, but because he carried them. Receivers of paramparā become objects of paramparā-worship in turn.
