  • dukūla — silk saris
Fine silk. The verse lists the householder ornaments — dukūla, valaya, hāra, nūpura, kuṇḍala. Gauḍīyas note that yajña does not require the renunciation of these; it requires the right orientation of them.
  • ajina — deerskin
Worn by the initiate. The single ascetic element among the householder ornaments. Gauḍīyas read the deerskin not as renunciation but as a marker — the yajamāna is touching the renunciate-register for the duration of the rite.
  • dīkṣitaḥ — having been initiated
Past participle of √dīkṣ. The state of having entered the yajña. Gauḍīyas note that dīkṣitaḥ is not a permanent identity here — it is the role-state Vasudeva occupies for the rite's duration.
  • vibabhau — he shone brilliantly
From vi + √bhā (to shine). To shine forth conspicuously. Gauḍīyas treat such verbs in the Bhāgavatam as signals: when something shines, the narrator is pointing out a moment that compresses doctrine into image.
Vasudeva received initiation along with his wives, who wore silk saris and were adorned with bangles, necklaces, ankle bells and earrings. With his body wrapped in a deerskin, Vasudeva shone splendidly.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Vasudeva received initiation along with his wives, who wore silk sārīs and were adorned with bangles, necklaces, ankle bells and earrings. With his body wrapped in a deerskin, Vasudeva shone splendidly.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Vasudeva shone splendidly (vibabhau).

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Vasudeva shone splendidly (vibabhau), more than before, because he was initiated. He was wrapped in deer skin.

Jiva

Vasudeva, wrapped in the deerskin of an initiate but still wearing the ornaments of a king, holds two registers at once — the renunciate's discipline and the householder's gift. The yajña does not strip him; it consecrates him as he is, sons and silks and all, dressed for both kitchen and forest in the same moment.
