  • sva-janam — a dear one
Compound: sva (one's own) + janam (person). 'One's own' is a contingent designation in saṁsāra — daivam can erase the relationship. Gauḍīyas contrast this with sambandha to Kṛṣṇa, which daiva cannot dissolve.
  • daivam — Providence, fate
Often translated as fate, daivam in Bhāgavata usage is the inscrutable arrangement of the Lord — kṛṣṇa-līlā operating through karma. Not blind chance but His sweet will, even when it bruises.
  • adakṣiṇam — unfavourable
Compound: a (not) + dakṣiṇam (favourable, southerly, generous). Dakṣiṇā is also the priest's fee — dakṣiṇa means rightward, auspicious. When daiva is left-handed, all relations turn cold.
  • na anusmaranti — do not remember
Plural verb: na (not) + anu-√smṛ (to recall after). Forgetting is the universal failure mode of conditioned relations. Bhakti is the only relationship in which forgetfulness is impossible from His side.
Friends and family members — even children, brothers and parents — forget a dear one whom Providence no longer favors.

Śrīla Śrīdhara Svāmī and Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura both comment that Kuntī does not blame her relatives for her suffering. Thus she calls them “most saintly persons” and alludes here to her own bad fortune as the cause of her unhappiness.

Translation
Friends and family members—even children, brothers and parents—forget a dear one whom Providence no longer favors.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Friends, family members, children, brothers and parents should remember a person with affection. The order is according to increasing affection.

Concepts
Jiva

When the wind shifts, even the smoke that hugged the fire forgets it. So with kin — when daiva turns away, the closest hearts grow distant. Kuntī states this as the world's law, not as accusation.
