Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.74.10-11
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
droṇa - bhīṣma - kṛpa - ādayaḥ
—
Droṇa, Bhīṣma, Kṛpa and others
Compound naming the Kuru elders in one breath. Their attendance ratifies the Rājasūya across the family fracture — the very figures who will later stand on the other side at Kurukṣetra are here as honoured guests.
-
viduraḥ
—
Vidura
Son of Vyāsa by a maidservant; viewed by Gauḍīyas as a great Vaiṣṇava (cf. Maitreya-Vidura saṁvāda, SB 3.1–4). His mahā-mati is named explicitly — the only one in this list given the epithet — anticipating his role later in 3.1 leaving Hastināpura to seek Kṛṣṇa-kathā.
-
yajña
—
the sacrifice
From √yaj. Not merely ritual — the entire reciprocal economy of giving up to the Lord. Bhagavān is Yajña-puruṣa; every sacrifice is a body He temporarily occupies. The crowd 'didṛkṣavaḥ' wants to see, but the seeing-worthy is the Lord at its centre.
-
didṛkṣavaḥ
—
eager to see
Desiderative of √dṛś — 'wanting-to-see ones'. The Bhāgavatam loves this verbal mood; darśana is itself bhakti-aṅga. The crowd's didṛkṣā is already a seed of devotion even before Sahadeva speaks.
Sending Nakula to Hastināpura, as approved by Kṛṣṇa, he invited other sages such as Droṇa. Others invited were Bāhlīka and Somadatta. Vidura was a knower of all dharma concerning this world and the next (mahāmatiḥ). Tatra vyavakaraś cāsīd viduraḥ sarva-dharma-vit: Vidura, knower of dharma was the dispenser of funds. āmantrayadhvaṁ rājyeṣu brāhmanān kṣatiryān api viśaś ca mānyān śūdrāś ca sarvān ānayateti ca On the order of Yudhiṣtḥira, Sahadeva said to the messengers “Invite brāhmaṇas and kṣatriyas also. Bring respectable vaiśyas and śūdras.”
Sending Nakula to Hastināpura, as approved by Kṛṣṇa, he invited other sages such as Droṇa. Others invited were Bāhlīka and Somadatta. The sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra were Duryodhana and others. The first members listed were most exalted at the sacrifice. Vidura was skilled at accounting for goods dispensed (mahāmatiḥ). Tatra vyavakaraś cāsīd viduraḥ sarva-dharma-vit: Vidura, knower of dharma, was the dispenser of funds.(Mahābhārata) sarva-dharma-vit means he knew all procedures of charity, according to time place and recipient or was fixed in bhakti to the Lord. Brāhmaṇas and others from other states gathered to see the sacrifice. They came on their own or were invited by messengers. āmantrayadhvaṁ rājyeṣu brāhmanān kṣatiryān api viśaś ca mānyān śūdrāś ca sarvān ānayateti ca On the order of Yudhiṣtḥira, Sahadeva said to the messengers “Invite brāhmaṇas and kṣatriyas also. Bring respectable vaiśyas and śūdras.” The ordinary kṣatriyas by birth were there. Kings were special. All their ministers were also there. Śukadeva calls to Parīkṣit in joy or amazement.
When a royal coronation is held, the doors stand open for every order — the priest in his white, the warrior in his armour, the merchant with his ledger, the labourer with his hands. The Rājasūya's audience is the whole varṇa-system come to witness Kṛṣṇa about to be named first.
