Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.71.20
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
mumukṣavaḥ
—
those desiring liberation
The captive kings are mumukṣu — but their mukti is double: release from jail and release from saṁsāra. Gauḍīyas note that the audience of Kṛṣṇa is itself mokṣa; the kings instinctively bind the two together.
-
sandarśanam
—
audience, full sight
Sandarśana — complete seeing. Not a glimpse but a held darśana. The kings wait not for the rescue but for the Person; the rescue is incidental to the darśana.
-
śaureḥ
—
of Lord Kṛṣṇa (descendant of Śūra)
Patronymic — descendant of Śūra (Vasudeva's father). The kings remember Him by the lineage; Bhāgavata loves to name Kṛṣṇa through His family.
The great Vaiṣṇava scholar Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī comments here that by force of circumstances the kings began focusing their attention on Lord Kṛṣṇa alone.
They waited for Krsna (pratyaiksan for pratyaksanta, for their benefit).
The kings waited, depending only on Kṛṣṇa (pratyaikṣan). They developed the desire to be free from Jarāsandha in order to see Kṛṣṇa.
The kings waited to see the Lord, with full dependence on the Lord, who appeared to display his unlimited powers (śaureḥ). They desired freedom from prison and saṁsāra. Or they waited to see the Lord, whom sages also waited for.
The captive kings, having heard Kṛṣṇa's promise relayed by the messenger, waiting for His audience as eagerly as for liberation itself, are like prisoners hearing a single bird outside the cell and knowing the dawn will come — the song is already enough.
