Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.58.18
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
preṣitaḥ
—
sent
Past participle of pra + √iṣ — dispatched. Repeated structure from verse 9 (preṣitaḥ tvayā — sent by You). Gauḍīya: Kṛṣṇa is consistently the sender; even when He is bodily present, the bhakta moves at His dispatch.
-
sakhyā
—
by his friend
Instrumental of sakhi. Arjuna is acting under Kṛṣṇa's sakhya-command — the friend dispatches the friend. Gauḍīya rasa-śāstra: in sakhya, errands are given and received without hierarchy. The Lord can send His sakhā as easily as His servant.
-
rucira - ānanām
—
of lovely face
Compound rucira (charming) + ānana (face). The poetic register marks her as more than ordinary woman — Bhāgavatam signals the divinity of Kālindī through adjectives, then will let her own words confirm it.
Kṛṣṇa wanted Arjuna to see the deep devotion of this girl, and thus He urged him to make the initial inquiries.
Arjuna was sent by Krsna to inquire from her about her attachment to him.
She is described. Her great beauty (pramadottamām) is indicated without describing everything. Arjuna was sent by Kṛṣṇa. He did not approach her out of desire on his own. Because he was a friend of Arjuna he acted without reservation. Arjuna got off the chariot and approached her. Kṛṣṇa sent Arjuna because he had a desire to have her as his wife. In any other circumstance, he would have approached her personally.
A friend sends an envoy to ask a stranger's purpose — but here the envoy is Arjuna and the friend is Bhagavān. The whole conversation that follows is staged by the One who already knows the answer; the asking is for our benefit, not His.
