  • avidhyat — he shot
From √vyadh — to pierce. Arjuna acts as kṣatriya; the verse logs the act without sentiment. Gauḍīya: dharma-yuddha against beasts that threaten village and yajña is part of varṇa-dharma, not a violation of bhakti.
  • rurūn — a species of antelope
One of the wild species the kṣatriya is licensed to hunt for sacrificial purpose. Gauḍīya: even the names of forest creatures are preserved in the Bhāgavatam's careful inventory — the world matters in its specifics.
  • śaraiḥ — with his arrows
Plural instrumental. The same instrument Arjuna will lay down in the Gītā moment — but here it works without contradiction. Gauḍīyas: the same act in different framings has different rasas; only with Kṛṣṇa as charioteer does the same bow become problematic.
With his arrows Arjuna shot tigers, boars and buffalo in that forest, along with rurus, śarabhas, gavayas, rhinoceroses, black deer, rabbits and porcupines.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
With his arrows Arjuna shot tigers, boars and buffalo in that forest, along with rurus, śarabhas, gavayas, rhinoceroses, black deer, rabbits and porcupines.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Ruru is a type of deer. Śarabha has eight feet. Gavaya is similar to a cow. Khaḍga is a rhinoceros.

Concepts
Jiva

A king practising arms in his own forest is not merely killing animals — he is sustaining the boundary between his realm and the wild that would overrun it. Arjuna's hunt feeds the sacrificial fires that hold civilisation together.
