  • āśvāsya — having consoled
Gerund of ā + √śvas (to breathe, to comfort). Literally 'having caused to breathe again'. The Bhāgavatam pictures consolation as breath-restoration — the widows had been gasping (cf. verse 44, visṛjantyaḥ); now He restores their breath.
  • loka - bhāvanaḥ — sustainer of the worlds
Compound: loka (world) + bhāvana (causing to be, maintaining). The epithet placed immediately after His act of consoling Kaṁsa's widows — the Bhāgavatam's signature move: His cosmic role is unconcealed precisely in His most local mercy.
  • laukikīm saṁsthām — the customary rites (of death)
Compound: laukikī (worldly, customary) + saṁsthā (rite, institution). The standard funeral rites. The Bhāgavatam names them with the technical word — Kṛṣṇa does not improvise; He follows śāstra even for the bodies of demons.
  • samakārayat — He caused to be performed
Causative imperfect of sam + √kṛ. He did not perform Himself; He arranged. Bhagavān as administrator — the karma-tantra mode. Cf. BG 18.61 — sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛd-deśe... bhrāmayan: He arranges all action.
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: After consoling the royal ladies, Lord Kṛṣṇa, sustainer of all the worlds, arranged for the prescribed funeral rites to be performed.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: After consoling the royal ladies, Lord Kṛṣṇa, sustainer of all the worlds, arranged for the prescribed funeral rites to be performed.
Commentary

"O wives of Kamsa, today you have met with great misfortune. But I am obligated to protect you, so why should you worry?" In this way he consoled them.

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

He consoled the women since he was the maintainer of all people (loka-bhāvanaḥ), with natural compassion. Viṣṇu Purāṇa says: bahu-prakāram asvasthaḥ paścāt tāpāturo hariḥ / tāḥ samāśvāsayām āsa svayam asrāvilekṣaṇaḥ // The Lord, experiencing great unhappiness and then afflicted with suffering, comforted the women personally with tears in his eyes. Hari-vaṁśa says: kaṁsa-nārī-pralapāṁś ca śrutvā sukaruṇān bahūn / garhamāṇas tathātmānaṁ tasmin yādava-saṁsadi // aho mayātibālyena nara-roṣānuvartinā / vaidhavyaṁ strī-sahasrāṇāṁ kaṁsasyāsya kṛte kṛtam // Hearing the excessive, miserable lamentation of Kaṁsa’s wives, he criticized himself in the assembly of Yadus. “Oh! I have widows of Kaṁsa’s thousand wives because of my foolishness, influenced by human anger. Kṛṣṇa arranged for the funeral rites for the dead. Sa nīto yamunā-tīram uttaram: rites were performed on the north bank of the Yamunā. (Hari-vaṁśa) He made the arrangement in order to stop the lamentation of the women and to maintain the purity of the holy places.

Jiva

Having consoled the widows, Kṛṣṇa Himself arranges the proper funeral rites for the slain. The Bhāgavatam will not let the chapter close on lament; the same hand that killed performs the death-saṁskāra. Bhagavān is goptā of both the living and the dead — even the dead enemy.
