  • hṛṣīkśaḥ — Lord of the senses
hṛṣīka (senses) + īśa (lord). The name Arjuna uses throughout the Gītā (1.21, 11.36). The One who knows what every sense has seen — and still asks, because the asking itself is a līlā of reciprocity.
  • adbhutam — something exceptional
From √bhū with prefix at- — that which exceeds (literally 'over-being'). Adbhuta is one of the seven secondary rasas of Rūpa Gosvāmī's Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu. Here the word names what Akrūra has just tasted in the water.
  • viyati — in the sky
Locative of viyat (sky, ākāśa). Earth, sky, water — the standard triad of cosmic loci. Kṛṣṇa's question scans the three worlds, but the wonder Akrūra saw was inside Him, not outside.
  • lakṣayāmahe — We surmise
Royal/divine plural of √lakṣ — to mark, infer. Kṛṣṇa speaks as the king-of-kings, reading the lakṣaṇas (signs) on Akrūra's face. Gauḍīya ācāryas note the playfulness: He who already knows reads aṣṭa-sāttvika-bhāvas like any rasika.
Lord Kṛṣṇa asked Akrūra: Have you seen something wonderful on the earth, in the sky or in the water? From your appearance, We think you have.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Lord Kṛṣṇa asked Akrūra: Have you seen something wonderful on the earth, in the sky or in the water? From your appearance, We think you have.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Kṛṣṇa, who inspires the senses or is omniscient (hṛṣīkeśaḥ), spoke out of curiosity. What did you experience at this holy place? It looks like you have seen something astonishing. It can see that by your appearance, such as your wide eyes. nūnaṁ te dṛṣṭam āścaryam akrūra yamunājale / vismayotphulla-nayano bhavān saṁ lakṣyate yataḥ // O Akrūra! You must have seen something astonishing in the water of the Yamunā since you have wide eyes. Viṣṇu Purāṇa. He spoke in the plural to indicate that his elder brother also had noticed this.

Kṛṣṇa, the antaryāmī, asks Akrūra what he has seen — not because He doesn't know, but because love prefers the beloved's own telling. A father lets a child describe the gift he has just unwrapped, though the father wrapped it himself.
