  • vijñāna-mātrāya — to the embodiment of pure transcendental knowledge
Compound: vijñāna (transcendental knowledge) + mātra (consisting of, sheer). Jīva Gosvāmī (Bhagavat-sandarbha) emphasizes vijñāna over jñāna: vijñāna is realized knowledge of the Person, not propositional knowledge of an abstraction.
  • sarva-pratyaya-hetave — to the cause of all awareness
Compound: sarva (all) + pratyaya (cognition, awareness) + hetu (cause). Every flicker of jīva-consciousness traces back to Him as antaryāmī. Gauḍīya echo of Gītā 15.15: mattaḥ smṛtir jñānam apohanaṁ ca.
  • puruṣa-īśa-pradhānāya — to the controller of the puruṣa and the pradhāna
Compound: puruṣa (Person) + īśa (controller) + pradhāna (unmanifest prakṛti). The Lord is master both of the jīva-puruṣas and of the pradhāna — He rules both sides of the dualism Sāṅkhya stops at.
  • ananta-śaktaye — to the One of unlimited energies
Compound: ananta (unlimited) + śakti (energy). Gauḍīya śakti-tattva in seed form: His potencies are infinite — antaraṅgā (cit), bahiraṅgā (māyā), taṭasthā (jīva). Jīva Gosvāmī unfolds the whole doctrine from such phrases.
  • brahmaṇe — to the Absolute Truth
Dative of brahman. In Gauḍīya reading, Brahman is Bhagavān's bodily effulgence (Bs 5.40: yasya prabhā prabhavato jagad-aṇḍa-koṭi). The verse names the impersonal aspect only to immediately personalize it through ananta-śakti.
Obeisances to the Supreme Absolute Truth, the possessor of unlimited energies. He is the embodiment of pure, transcendental knowledge, the source of all kinds of awareness, and the predominator of the forces of nature that rule over the living being.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Obeisances to the Supreme Absolute Truth, the possessor of unlimited energies. He is the embodiment of pure, transcendental knowledge, the source of all kinds of awareness, and the predominator of the forces of nature that rule over the living being.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

You know all of this. You have all abilities to reward living beings. What is the use of informing you of all of this? Akrūra then offers himself in humility in two verses.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

You know all of this by your nature. What can I tell you? Concluding the praise and offering himself, he offers respects in two verses. I offer respects to you, the form of concentrated knowledge, to the controller of karma and time which give suffering to the jīvas (puruṣa) or to the controller in the form of the three puruṣas. Since you are the supreme Lord, you have all knowledge.

Related verses

A flame is not the kindling, the fuel, the sparks, or the warmth — yet without it none of these are anything. So Bhagavān is vijñāna-mātra: the pure-knowing-itself, the source of every flicker of awareness in every being, and the master of the prakṛti that screens it. Akrūra bows to the Person who is consciousness's very substance.
