Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.15.9
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
śrīmat
—
beautiful
Possessing śrī. Gauḍīya: śrīmat-vṛndāvanam — Vṛndāvana with all its beauty/opulence. Not material opulence; Vraja's śrī is the natural sweetness of every leaf and pond when Kṛṣṇa walks through it.
-
prīta-manāḥ
—
being satisfied in His mind
prīta (pleased) + manas (mind). Gauḍīya note: Kṛṣṇa's prīti is the highest measure of līlā's success. The bhakta's task is to make the Lord prīta; verse 9 records the rare moment when even the forest itself succeeded at that task.
-
reme
—
He took pleasure
Third person aorist of √ram. The same root as Rāma. Gauḍīya: ramate is the verb form of Bhagavān's nature; He is not merely happy, He continuously enjoys (ramaṇam — root of Rāma's name).
-
sa-anugaḥ
—
together with His companions
sa (with) + anuga (follower). Kṛṣṇa never enjoys alone; the rasa requires the bhakta. Gauḍīya: bhakti is dual by nature — even svayaṁ-bhagavān seeks the devotee's companionship. He could enjoy as ātmārāma but chooses sa-anuga.
-
adreḥ
—
in the vicinity of the mountain
Genitive of adri (mountain). Govardhana. Gauḍīya: Govardhana is non-different from Kṛṣṇa Himself (cf. SB 10.24-25, the Govardhana-pūjā līlā). To enjoy on its banks is to enjoy in His own form; one part of Himself walking around another part.
Evam (thus) means "decribing Vrndavana in this way ", or "having thus satisfied his older brother." Krsna inspired by his own words "the gopis were fortunate for having attains his chest," along with Balarama, began to call out to the cows and cowherd boys. "After resting here at Govardhana for a short time, you should proceed to the bank of the Yamuna and play for sometime. I will come soon." Though inseparable from Balarama during this pauganda age, with the appearance of kaisora age Krsna began his amorous pastimes with the gopis alone. This is indicated in this verse by the word "evam." Having praised Balarama and having made him herd the cows through the forest of Vrndavana (evam), he to whom Radha (srimat) shows love (pritah) came to Manasa Ganga (adreh sarito) and began to enjoy with the sakhis (sanuga). Srimat refers to the chief woman of Vraja, Radha (srimati). Because this meaning is confidential there is another meaning which covers this jewel like a golden case. Srimat can refer to Baladeva. Krsna who had affection for Balarama began to sport with his friends on the bank of the Manasa Ganga.
Joking in this way, Kṛṣṇa was pleased with Vṛndāvana. The accusative case is used with words denoting time, length, condition or place. They also went to Govardhana (adreḥ). Prīta indicates a general condition of being pleased and prīta-maṇāḥ indicates being pleased in mind.
Describing the forest in this way (evam), Kṛṣṇa enjoyed. Or, in that way, being satisfied with the forest, and giving it mercy (evam), he enjoyed

When a beloved son finally arrives at his ancestral house after long absence, the entire family relaxes around him — not because anything dramatic happens, but because his presence settles every mood. Verses 1-8 were Kṛṣṇa's first-look praise of Vṛndāvana; verse 9 is the settling — He simply enjoys, with friends, on the banks below Govardhana. The pastime mood arrives.
