  • guhyam — very confidential
From √guh (to hide). Not a secret kept for power but a teaching that loses its meaning when received by the wrong ear. The Gauḍīya doctrine of adhikāra: revelation is calibrated to the receiver's capacity, not broadcast.
  • snigdhasya — of the affectionate, melted disciple
Genitive of snigdha (oily, soft, melted by love). The disciple must be liquefied by śraddhā before the guhya-tattva can be poured in. A hard, contentious disciple is a leaking vessel — the Gauḍīya śravaṇa requires emotional, not merely intellectual, surrender.
  • śiṣyasya — of a disciple
From √śās (to instruct). One who has accepted the discipline of a guru. Gauḍīyas insist on the dīkṣā-relationship as the channel for tattva — independent reading without a guru produces speculation, not realization.
  • guravaḥ — spiritual masters
Plural — Śuka invokes the parampara, not solo authority. Gauḍīyas read this as the warrant for the guru-paramparā: the teaching is transmitted, not invented; the disciple receives it inside a lineage.
  • avahitaḥ — with great attention
From ava + √dhā (to place down). The disciple's ears must be set down upon the teacher's words; distraction breaks the channel. Gauḍīyas read this as the inner posture of śravaṇa — full presence, not casual listening.
O King, kindly hear me with great attention. Although the activities of the Supreme Lord are very confidential, no ordinary man being able to understand them, I shall speak about them to you, for spiritual masters explain to a submissive disciple even subject matters that are very confidential and difficult to understand.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
O King, kindly hear me with great attention. Although the activities of the Supreme Lord are very confidential, no ordinary man being able to understand them, I shall speak about them to you, for spiritual masters explain to a submissive disciple even subject matters that are very confidential and difficult to understand.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Be attentive, since what I will speak is very difficult to understand. O person shining with intelligence (rājan—means shining one, as well as king)! The word uta indicates his intention: I will speak about this. Many astonishing things which appear impossible concerning the Lord and Brahmā will be told, which are not easily understood by all. In this way the topic is secret (guhyam).

As a guru places a confidential ear-mantra into the right ear of the qualified disciple alone — not whispered to the crowd — Śuka now bends toward Parīkṣit to disclose what would only confuse the unprepared. The secrecy is not exclusion; it is the protection of the medicine from the patient who would misuse the dose.

Sanātana Gosvāmī's questions to Mahāprabhu

When Sanātana Gosvāmī approached Caitanya Mahāprabhu at Vārāṇasī, the Lord taught him for two months — sambandha, abhidheya, prayojana — the most confidential theology of the Gauḍīya line, recorded in Caitanya-caritāmṛta Madhya-līlā 20–23.

Mahāprabhu disclosed these guhyāni only to a snigdha-śiṣya — a melted, surrendered disciple — exactly as Śuka here disclosed the Brahmā-vimohana to Parīkṣit. The Gauḍīya pattern: guhya-tattva flows along the channel of surrender, never along the channel of curiosity.
