Important Words
-
prabuddhaḥ
—
awakened
From pra + √budh. The same root that gives buddha — "the awakened one." Gauḍīyas note Vyāsa's deliberate vocabulary: even Bhagavān's resumption of normal consciousness is described as awakening, not as recall — the language of jāgrat after svapna.
-
svāpnam yathā
—
as if from a dream
Phrase: svāpna (pertaining to sleep) + yathā (as if). The standard Bhāgavatam simile for māyā. Kṛṣṇa's brief absorption is compared to the dream-state — and the verse's punch is that for a jīva, this is the permanent condition He has come to break.
-
ambara-cāriṇam
—
moving in the sky
Compound: ambara (sky) + cārin (moving). The enemy is ambara-cārin, sky-traveling. Gauḍīyas read this as the standard depiction of avidyā — it never stands on earth, always darts overhead, refusing to be pinned down until the cakra arrives.
-
nihantum udyataḥ
—
prepared to kill
Phrase: ni + √han (to slay) + udyata (raised, prepared). The Lord's posture shifts from grieving son to executioner in a single line. Vaiṣṇava decisiveness — when the role-play has served its purpose, the disc is raised.
Now alert to the actual situation, Lord Acyuta saw before Him on the battlefield neither the messenger nor His father’s body. It was as if He had awakened from a dream. Seeing His enemy flying above Him in his Saubha plane, the Lord then prepared to kill him.

Translation
Now alert to the actual situation, Lord Acyuta saw before Him on the battlefield neither the messenger nor His father's body. It was as if He had awakened from a dream. Seeing His enemy flying above Him in his Saubha plane, the Lord then prepared to kill him.
Commentary
Therefore, as if awaking from a dream world, Krsna no longer saw his father’s body or the messenger.
Jīva Gosvāmī
Gauḍīya
Commentary
He awakened, and did not see the messenger or his father’s body. He awoke because he possessed indestructible knowledge (acyutaḥ).

Analogy
Alert again to the actual situation, Kṛṣṇa sees neither messenger nor body on the field — "as if waking from a dream." The Lord's recovery from the illusion is described in the exact terminology applied to a jīva's awakening from saṁsāra: the bodies were never there, only the dreaming mind made them dense.
