Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.71.39
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
deva - deva - īśam
—
Lord of the gods of the gods
Triple intensification — God of the gods of the gods. Yudhiṣṭhira knows the metaphysical rank of his guest yet is undone by joy. Gauḍīyas read: knowledge of His Lordship deepens, never blocks, the prema-vivaśatā (love-overwhelm).
-
pramoda - upahataḥ
—
overcome by joy
Upahata — struck down, undone. Pramoda is so great it disables ritual memory; the heart is too full for hands to remember mantra-sequence.
-
kṛtyam
—
the act to be done, ritual detail
Kṛtya — the protocol of worship. The king forgets it. Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu treats this as a positive sign — vivaśa-bhāva, where love eclipses procedure.
Śrīla Prabhupāda writes: “As he brought Kṛṣṇa within the palace, King Yudhiṣṭhira became so confused in his jubilation that he practically forgot what he was to do at that time in order to receive Kṛṣṇa and worship Him properly.”
Overcome with joy, the king did not know the proper way of worshipping.
Though he was to be known only by words, Kṛṣṇa was now visible to the senses (govindam). He was most rare, lord of Brahmā and other devatās (deva-deveśam). Yudhiṣṭhira respected him. Or “Why are you so confused, running here and there? I am dependent on you. Enough of this attempt at worshipping me! Just sit comfortably and let me gaze at you for a long time.” In this manner, in many ways, he was respected (ādṛtaḥ) by Kṛṣṇa. As a king (nṛpaḥ) he possessed all assistance to perform worship properly with all its elements. But he could not remember what to do, since he was overcome with joy.
Yudhiṣṭhira, overcome with joy, forgetting the rituals of worship as he leads Govinda inside, is like a host who, finding his beloved at the door, drops the lamp he was carrying — the welcome bypasses procedure because love is louder than method.
