Important Words
-
bhagna - darpāḥ
—
their pride broken
The Kurus' explicit goal — to humble the Vṛṣṇis. By chapter's end it is the Kurus' own pride that will lie in pieces beneath Balarāma's plough.
-
prāṇāḥ
—
the senses (lit. life-airs)
Their chosen simile: subdue the Vṛṣṇis as a yogī subdues the senses. The image will boomerang — the only senses being subdued are their own arrogance, by the Lord's chastisement.
-
saṁyatāḥ
—
brought under control
From sam + yam, 'to restrain completely.' The Kurus dream of restraining the Yadus; Balarāma will restrain the Kurus by tilting their city toward the Ganges.
If the Vṛṣṇis come here when they learn that their son has been captured, we will break their pride. Thus they’ll become subdued, like bodily senses brought under strict control.

Translation
If the Vṛṣṇis come here when they learn that their son has been captured, we will break their pride. Thus they'll become subdued, like bodily senses brought under strict control.
Commentary
They will become peaceful, like controlled senses (prana).
Jīva Gosvāmī
Gauḍīya
Commentary
They will be under our control (śamaṁ yānti). An example of controlling what is difficult to control is given: even senses can be brought under control.
Śrīdhara Svāmī
Gauḍīya
Commentary
“Out of affection for their son they will try to find him.” Since he is a son they have great affection for him. Thus the Vṛṣṇis, headed by Kṛṣṇa will come. They will be under our control (śamaṁ yānti). An example of controlling what is difficult to control is given: even senses can be brought under control.

Analogy
Like men who think they can leash a tiger by trapping its cub, the Kurus plan to subdue the Vṛṣṇis by taking their son hostage. The cub's parent has not yet roared.
