Important Words
-
jaya-śabdaḥ
—
the sound of "Victory!"
Compound: jaya (victory) + śabda (sound). The devas' standard cry at Bhagavān's līlā. Gauḍīyas chant the same word in jaya-dhvani after kīrtana — the upper-world chorus is recapitulated in saṅkīrtana.
-
namaḥ-śabdaḥ
—
the sound of "Obeisances!"
Namas — the bīja of surrender, ego-renunciation. The devas pair jaya with namas: victory of the Lord and humbling of the self, the two halves of the same response.
-
sādhu sādhu iti
—
the exclamation "Excellent! Well done!"
Sādhu (good) doubled — Vedic-style acclamation. The same exclamation Yajña-śālā would offer to a perfectly executed ritual. Bhagavān's slaying of an asura is here counted as a perfectly executed yajña.
-
sura-siddha-muni-indrāṇām
—
of the demigods, perfected mystics, and great sages
Triple compound: sura (deva) + siddha (perfected being) + muni-indra (chief of sages). Three classes of upper-world residents, all unified in approval. Across difference of station, there is one bhāva — gratitude to Bhagavān for clearing the earth.
-
kusuma-varṣiṇām
—
of those who showered flowers
Compound: kusuma (flower) + varṣin (one who showers). Puṣpa-vṛṣṭi is the upper-world's signature offering at moments of līlā. Gauḍīyas read the rain of flowers as the visible form of celestial bhāva — what cannot be said is poured.
In the heavens the demigods, perfect mystics and great sages cried out, “Victory to You! Obeisances to You! Excellent! Well done!” and showered flowers upon the Lord.
Gauḍīya Ācāryas
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura
Gauḍīya
Translation
In the heavens the demigods, perfect mystics and great sages cried out, "Victory to You! Obeisances to You! Excellent! Well done!" and showered flowers upon the Lord.
Jīva Gosvāmī
Gauḍīya
Commentary
The best of the devatās like Indra shouted “Very good!” Each of them shouted these words because of bliss, devotion and astonishment. Or, according to their bhāva, devatās shouted “Victory!” jīvanmuktas shouted “Obeisances to you!” and sages shouted, “Very good!”
Śrīdhara Svāmī
Gauḍīya
Commentary
There was great joy among the Yadus or all mankind. But even the best (indrānām) among sages, siddhas and devatās rejoiced.

Analogy
Even sky-beings — devas, siddhas, munis — rain flowers when an asura falls before Bhagavān. The heavens' jaya-śabda is not flattery; it is the cosmos confessing its dependence. When Hari acts on earth, the upper worlds breathe out.
