Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.55.37
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
mahat-āścaryam
—
the great wonder
Compound: mahat (great) + āścaryam (marvel). The chapter's last invocation of adbhuta-rasa — opened at v.5, closed here. The Bhāgavatam frames the entire episode as one extended marvel-event.
-
kṛṣṇa-antaḥ-pura-yoṣitaḥ
—
the women of Kṛṣṇa's inner palace
Compound: kṛṣṇa (Kṛṣṇa) + antaḥ (inner) + pura (palace) + yoṣitaḥ (women, fem. pl.). The 16,108 queens and their women — the most populous antaḥ-pura in the Bhāgavatam. They greet collectively, as a household.
-
abhyanandan
—
they greeted, they rejoiced over
Imperfect of abhi-√nand (to greet with joy, to praise). The same verb used of the devas at v.25; the inner-household joy matches the cosmic joy in vocabulary.
-
naṣṭam-mṛtam-iva-āgatam
—
lost and returned as if from the dead
Compound: naṣṭam (lost) + mṛtam (dead) + iva (as if) + āgatam (returned). Four words that compress the chapter's arc. The Bhāgavatam refuses to soften: the women treat Pradyumna's loss as a death and His return as a resurrection.
Mahad āśarayam should be mahāścaryam. They welcomed him as will be described. He had disappeared and was thus as if dead. Now he had again returned as if from death. The women were overjoyed with astonishment on being shown Pradyumna’s greatness by relationship with Kṛṣṇa.
All the women of the inner chambers belonging to Kṛṣṇa, directly the supreme Lord, including unlimited servant girls and friends, welcomed him, praising his glorious actions. Or having recovered him, they were completely happy (abhyanandan).
The palace women, hearing the story, greet Pradyumna as one returning from the dead — a son lost for years brought back. The household economy of bhakti includes long absences; reunion lands not as a mild relief but as resurrection.
