  • pralambaḥ — Pralamba
The demon killed by Balarāma in SB 10.18 — Nanda credits the deed to the dual Kṛṣṇa-Balarāma, never separating them. Gauḍīyas: sakhya-rasa's grammar keeps the brothers' victories pooled.
  • dhenukaḥ — Dhenuka
Donkey-demon of the Tālavana (SB 10.15). Killed by Balarāma. The list mixes Kṛṣṇa's and Balarāma's victories without distinguishing — a deliberate gesture of brotherly love.
  • ariṣṭaḥ — Ariṣṭa
Bull-demon of SB 10.36 — same vṛṣa Nanda named in verse 20. Gauḍīya tīkā: the canto cycles its own demons; the second naming is the reverberation of the first.
  • tṛṇāvartaḥ — Tṛṇāvarta
Whirlwind-demon of SB 10.7 — the one who tried to carry baby Kṛṣṇa into the sky. Nanda's choice to list this earliest demon last in the verse follows a non-chronological order: the demons are recited as they rise in memory, not in history.
  • baka - ādayaḥ — Baka and others
Compound: Baka (heron-demon, SB 10.11) + ādi (and others). The ādi covers Agha, Pūtanā, Śakaṭa, Keśī — the verse trusts the reader to fill in. Bhāgavata economy: enumeration not exhaustive but evocative.
  • sura - asura - jitaḥ — those who had conquered both demigods and demons
Compound: sura (god) + asura (demon) + jit (conqueror). Each of these demons had already defeated higher beings before meeting Kṛṣṇa. The phrase quietly demolishes Nanda's verse-23 hypothesis: a mere demigod could not have done what his son did to those who had already defeated demigods.
Here in Vṛndāvana, Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma easily destroyed demons like Pralamba, Dhenuka, Arista, Tṛṇāvarta and Baka, who had themselves defeated both demigods and other demons.

Translation

Commentary

These demons were killed by Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma (yena yena).

Commentary

Ādi refers to Keśī and other demons. It was said that Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma killed the elephant and Kaṁsa (avadhiṣṭām). Because of their mutual affection they are considered as one person, one helping the other. Three verses describe how he helps the devatās. By lifting Govardhana he broke the pride of Indra. This was also for benefiting the devatās.

Nanda closes his catalog with the Vraja-demons themselves — Pralamba, Dhenuka, Ariṣṭa, Tṛṇāvarta, Baka. Demons who had defeated devas were dispatched by his son līlayā. The list is recitation; vipralambha needs to keep speaking, because silence is the closest approach to His absence.
