  • svairam — at Their will, freely
Adverb from sva + īra. By Their own pleasure. Gauḍīya: Kṛṣṇa moves svairam — His every motion is independently willed, not driven. The bhakta's ideal is to come within range of this svaira-līlā.
  • ādityaḥ — the sun
From √ad — to eat (the sun consumes darkness). Setting suns frame Kṛṣṇa's days in Canto 10. Gauḍīya note: even sūrya is just a lamp in Bhagavān's drama — sun rises and sets to mark His scenes.
  • kṛṣṇa-rāmau — Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma
Contiguous compound dual. The brothers' joint name. Gauḍīya: kṛṣṇa-rāma is itself a mantra-pair (Rāmādi-mūrtiṣu kalā-niyamena tiṣṭhan, Brahma-saṁhitā 5.39) — the same Bhagavān in two simultaneous forms.
  • gopaiḥ — by the cowherd boys
Instrumental plural of gopa. The sakhās are still with Him — Mathurā has not severed Vraja. Gauḍīya emphasis: gopa-saṅga is not abandoned even in the killing-week of the demon.
  • śakaṭam — the wagons, the encampment
From √śak — that which carries. The śakaṭa is the cowherd's caravan. Gauḍīya parallel: the same word used for the cart Kṛṣṇa kicked over as an infant (Śakaṭāsura, SB 10.7) — the Bhāgavata's vocabulary keeps returning to the cowherd's domestic geometry.
As They strolled about at will, the sun began to set, so They left the city with the cowherd boys and returned to the cowherds’ wagon encampment.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
As They strolled about at will, the sun began to set, so They left the city with the cowherd boys and returned to the cowherds' wagon encampment.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Wandering in many places (vi—caratoḥ) the sun began to set, unable to tolerate Kṛṣṇa’s prowess manifested at that time.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

The two wandered throughout the city as they pleased going here and there, surrounded affectionately by the cowherd boys. Kṛṣṇa is mentioned first because he was the main person.

Jiva

Two princes who have toured a strange city all afternoon return at dusk to the wagons of their fathers' camp — the day's work done, the night ahead's larger work undisclosed. Kṛṣṇa keeps the rhythm of an ordinary cowherd day even on the eve of His most consequential combat.
