  • prasūna-avacayaḥ — the gathering of flowers
Compound: prasūna (flower) + avacaya (gathering, plucking). The nikuñja activity proper. Caitanya Mahāprabhu and His companions at Purī would re-enact puṣpa-avacaya in groves, identifying themselves with this Vraja moment.
  • priyā-arthe — for the sake of His beloved
Compound: priyā (beloved-female) + arthe (for the sake of). The motive is exclusively Hers. Mādhurya-rasa's absolute: Kṛṣṇa does this for one, not for the many. The gopīs feel the absolutism and bow to it even in pain.
  • prapada-ākramaṇe — with the pressing down of the front of His feet
Compound: prapada (front of foot, ball of foot) + ākramaṇa (pressing). Forensic precision — the prints are crescents, not full feet. The Bhāgavatam writes like a court ballet's stage-directions.
  • asakale-pade — the incomplete pair of footprints
Phrase: asakala (incomplete) + pada (foot). The visible insufficiency of the prints is the proof of His full attention to Her. Lack reveals love.
Just see how in this place dear Kṛṣṇa collected flowers for His beloved. Here He has left the impression of only the front part of His feet because He was standing on His toes to reach the flowers.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Just see how in this place dear Kṛṣṇa collected flowers for His beloved. Here He has left the impression of only the front part of His feet because He was standing on His toes to reach the flowers.
Commentary

"O unobservant gopis! Do not grieve. Why are you saying all of this? You are speaking without thinking. The disappearance of her footprints gives more sorrow than seeing the footprints. It makes our life airs disappear." The vipaksa gopis such as Candravali speak with this intent. "Here Krsna’s footprints have become more prominent in the earth. Though not married to her, in this forest Krsna has treated her as if she were his bride, and is wandering about with an extra burden like a householder with his family. Because he has given up us, who are filled with genuine love, we can understand that Krsna is just filled with lust, not sincere love. Being overcome with lust, he has carried this lusty woman. Otherwise how could the son of the king of Vraja, so handsome, become the carrier of a cowherd woman?" The sakhis spoke. "Here he has put her down. Being the most clever (mahatma), with mind intent on decorating her hair (mahatma), Krsna has put her down in order to gather flowers. The asoka tree, being touched by her foot, had sprung into bloom. Thens he thought that he wouldl decorate Radha with those flowers." Therefore he is called very intelligent (mahatma).

Commentary

Other friends of Rādhā speak. He who is most affectionate (preyasā) picked flowers. The reason is given in the second part of the verse. See these half foot prints caused by standing on his toes at every flowering tree. Viṣṇu Purāṇa explains: puṣpāvacayam atroccaiś cakre dāmodaro dhruvam yenāgrākrānti-mātrāṇi padāny atra mahātmanaḥ Kṛṣṇa for certain picked many flowers here because there are many prints of only the tips of his feet.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

The flowers were picked by the most beloved (preyasā) for his beloved (priyārthe). This is the opposite of the previous statement preyasīṁ priya. This indicates that they were equal in affection. Or because he lifted her he considered her the best. Now she is considered the dearest, since he followed her order to pick flowers. He raised both feet. This indicates that one can pick many flowers by standing in one place at one of the many flowering trees. Or standing on his toes each time in front of many trees he picked flowers. puṣpāvacayam atroccaiś cakre dāmodaro dhruvam yenāgrākrānti-mātrāṇi padāny atra mahātmanaḥ Kṛṣṇa for certain picked many flowers here because there are many prints of only the tips of his feet. When a lover stretches to reach the highest jasmine, the back arches and the feet rise — only the toe-prints register in the soft soil. The gopīs read these incomplete prints and reconstruct His tenderness: He was on tiptoe, plucking flowers for Her. Love's archaeology is meticulous.
