Important Words
-
rāja-putri
—
O princess
Compound: rāja (king) + putrī (daughter). He addresses her by her natal status — daughter of Bhīṣmaka of Vidarbha — to set up the rhetorical contrast: a princess deserves a king, and He is about to argue He is not one.
-
loka
—
by the rulers of planets
Compound: loka (world) + pāla (protector). Indra, Varuṇa, Yama, Kubera — the cosmic kings. The suitors are not merely wealthy men; the verse stretches the comparison to the highest possible mundane benchmark to make His next claim look stark.
The Supreme Lord said: My dear princess, you were sought after by many kings as powerful as the rulers of planets. They were all abundantly endowed with political influence, wealth, beauty, generosity and physical strength.

Translation
The Supreme Lord said: My dear princess, you were sought after by many kings as powerful as the rulers of planets. They were all abundantly endowed with political influence, wealth, beauty, generosity and physical strength.

Commentary
He speaks of the reason she choose him, as if he were ignorant, in three verses. O daughter of a king, endowed with a wealth of beauty and qualities! You were desired by many kings at the svayaṁvara ceremony long before. This is described in Hari-vaṁśa. They had great influence (mahānubhāvaiḥ) and wealth (śrīmadbhiḥ) (or wealth and glory).

Personal Guidance
My dear princess, you were sought by many kings as powerful as planetary rulers — abundant in influence, wealth, beauty, generosity, strength. The Lord opens His teasing by naming the alternatives she had.
Reflection Questions
- Where do you forget the genuine alternatives you bypassed for Kṛṣṇa?
- How does honest acknowledgment of those alternatives steady your present commitment?
Analogy
A father, eyes twinkling, says to his daughter on her wedding day, 'You could have had any of the great houses — why did you pick this odd suitor?' He knows the answer; he wants to hear her say it. So Kṛṣṇa, knowing every reason in her heart, opens the inventory of the rejected kings.
