Gauḍīya
Translation
Durvāsā said: O King! Today I have witnessed the greatness of the Lord’s devotees, for although I desired your bad fortune, you have prayed for my good fortune.
Though I desired your misfortune (krṭāgasaḥ), you desired my good fortune.
Personal Guidance
Durvāsā discovers that real greatness is not in mystic power but in praying for one's offender. The proof of bhakti is what a devotee asks for on behalf of the one who has wronged him.
Reflection Questions
- When I think of 'great devotees,' am I picturing impressive abilities or surprising compassion?
- If someone observed how I respond to those who offend me, what would they conclude about my devotion?
