From Subala will come Sunītha; from Sunītha, Satyajit; from Satyajit, Viśvajit; and from Viśvajit, Ripuñjaya. All of these personalities will belong to the dynasty of Bṛhadratha, which will rule the world for one thousand years.

This is the history of a monarchy that began with Jarāsandha and continues for one thousand years as the above-mentioned kings appear on the surface of the globe.

Thus end the Bhaktivedanta purports of the Ninth Canto, Twenty-second Chapter, of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, entitled “The Descendants of Ajamīḍha.”

Translation
From Subala will come Sunītha; from Sunītha, Satyajit; from Satyajit, Viśvajit; and from Viśvajit, Ripuñjaya. All of these personalities will belong to the dynasty of Bṛhadratha, which will rule the world for one thousand years. From the time of Jārasandha that dynasty will continue for a thousand years. The kings after that will be described in the Twelfth Canto. Thus ends the commentary on the Twenty-second Chapter of the Ninth Canto of the Bhāgavatam for the pleasure of the devotees, in accordance with the previous ācāryas. Chapter Twenty-three Dynasties of Yayāti’s Four Sons
The Bṛhadratha dynasty — through Sunītha, Satyajit, Viśvajit, Ripuṣjaya — will rule the world for one thousand years. Even the largest historical structures, scripture says calmly, last one thousand years and end.
Reflection Questions
  • What 'thousand-year' structure in my world do I treat as immortal?
  • How could remembering the planned end shape my use of the present?
