Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: When the conditioned soul [jīva] in the form of Mahārāja Citraketu’s son had spoken in this way and then left, Citraketu and the other relatives of the dead son were all astonished. Thus they cut off the shackles of their affection, which was due to their relationship with him, and gave up their lamentation.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: When that jīva had spoken in this way and then left, Citraketu and the other relatives, astonished by his words, cut off the shackles of their affection for him and gave up their lamentation.
After the conditioned soul (as Citraketu's son) had spoken and left, Citraketu and the relatives cut the shackles of affection caused by illusion. Right teaching, on right occasion, can sever real chains.
Reflection Questions
  • What teaching has actually cut a chain in me?
  • Where is a chain still uncut because the right teaching hasn't been spoken yet?
