  • vāsudevāya — to Lord Vāsudeva
Vāsudeva — Kṛṣṇa as son of Vasudeva, and also (etymologically) 'the indwelling deva'. Gauḍīyas read Vāsudeva as the first of the catur-vyūha (Vāsudeva-Saṅkarṣaṇa-Pradyumna-Aniruddha) and as the form addressed in the dvādaśākṣarī mantra Om namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.
  • viṣṇave — to all-pervading Viṣṇu
From √viś (to enter, pervade). Viṣṇu is Bhagavān in His pervasive aspect; Gauḍīyas hold that all Viṣṇu-forms are expansions of Kṛṣṇa, the svayaṁ-bhagavān (SB 1.3.28).
  • ādi - bījāya — to the original seed
Compound: ādi (first) + bīja (seed). Bīja is also the technical term for the seed-syllable of a mantra. The Lord is both source of creation and the syllable from which mantra-power unfolds.
  • pūrṇa - bodhāya — to the fully-aware one
Compound: pūrṇa (complete) + bodha (knowledge). Bhagavān is not 'omniscient' as an attribute — He is the wholeness of awareness itself. Gauḍīyas distinguish pūrṇa-bodha from impersonalist 'pure consciousness': the fullness here is personal.
Obeisances unto You, the Supreme Lord Vāsudeva, Viṣṇu, the primeval person, the original seed. Obeisances unto You, the omniscient one.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Obeisances unto You, the Supreme Lord Vāsudeva, Viṣṇu, the primeval person, the original seed. Obeisances unto You, the omniscient one.
Commentary

I am playing in the ocean of your sweetness and aisvarya. I pay respects to you, full of all powers( bhagavate). But though are full of all powers, you are the son of Vasudeva (vasudevaya), but still you are the original form of bhagavan. Though you are the son of Vasudeva, you are also Visnu, the all pervading. Though you are all pervading, you are still a person (purusa), individualized. Though you are individualized, you are the source of all (adi bija), even of Visnu, as shown during the Brahma mohana lila. Though you are such a seed, you are form of complete consciousness itself, that is brahman (purna bodha). In other words, though you are endowed with infinite spiritual qualities, you are also the impersonal brahma. Though you are unborn (aja), you generate the universes. Though you generate the universes, you are impersonal brahman. Though you are impersonal and without qualities, you are endowed with form and unlimited qualities and energies (ananta saktaye). Though you have unlimited energies, you have three principal energies: tatashta, bahiranga and antaranga. You are the jiva composed of all the elevated and degraded souls (para avara atma), you are the body made of the five gross material elements (bhuta atma) and you are the internal witness, paramatma.

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Such beauty is befitting. That is expressed in this verse. You are the form who eagerly reveals unlimited qualities (bhagavān) since you act as the son of Vasudeva. Thus you spread the universe with your glories and are the seed for your devotees (puruṣa) gaining (āya) prema. There is no need for the devotees to inform you about their desire since you are full of knowledge.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Such beauty is befitting. That is expressed in this verse. You are the form who eagerly reveals unlimited qualities (bhagavān) since you act as the son of Vasudeva. Thus you spread the universe with your glories. You are internal and external. You exist in the hearts of all as antaryāmī (puruṣāya). Moreover you are the source of sweet pastimes (ādi-bījāya). Otherwise you would not show your infant and other pastimes. Or you are the cause for your devotees (puruṣa) gaining (āya) prema. There is no need for the devotees to inform you about their desire, since you are full of knowledge (pūrṇa-bodhāya). Or you give understanding of bhakti to the ātmārāmas, making liberation of the ātmārāmas insignificant. Kunti says: tathā paramahaṁsānāṁ munīnām amalātmanām | bhakti-yoga-vidhānārthaṁ kathaṁ paśyema hi striyaḥ || How can we women hope to see you, the object of bhakti for the omniscient, liberated sages? Reflection Questions
  • What multiple titles for Kṛṣṇa flow naturally in your prayer?
  • Where could you let yourself stack names like devotees do?

Bhūmi names Him three ways — Vāsudeva, Viṣṇu, Puruṣa — then ādi-bīja, original seed, then pūrṇa-bodha, complete knowledge. The list moves from form to source to substance; it is a small Bhāgavatam inside a single ślokā.
