  • patnyaḥ — the wives
Plural of patnī. Nagnajit's queens. Gauḍīya: family bhakti is not solo; the patnīs share in the rasa of receiving Kṛṣṇa, as Kuntī shared in verses 7–10. Women carry the household's devotion forward.
  • labdhvā — obtaining
Absolutive of √labh — having obtained. Gauḍīya: Kṛṣṇa is labhya (obtainable) only by bhakti; the Bhāgavatam carefully says the household obtained Him — not He them. The asymmetry of grace is preserved.
  • parama - ānandam — the greatest ecstasy
Compound parama (supreme) + ānanda (bliss). The same ānanda Bhagavān is full of (verse 38). Gauḍīya: by receiving Kṛṣṇa, the household receives a share in His own ātma-ānanda.
  • parama - utsavaḥ — great festival
Compound parama + utsava — supreme festival. Festivals are how rasa is shared with the city. Gauḍīya: every kṛṣṇa-arrival becomes utsava; the Caitanya-tradition's nāma-saṅkīrtana-utsavas inherit this grammar directly.
The King’s wives felt the greatest ecstasy upon attaining Lord Kṛṣṇa as the dear husband of the royal princess, and a mood of great festivity arose.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The King's wives felt the greatest ecstasy upon attaining Lord Kṛṣṇa as the dear husband of the royal princess, and a mood of great festivity arose.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

The king’s wives felt the highest bliss when their daughter obtained her desired (priyam) husband. Therefore a huge festival took place.

The King's wives feel the greatest ecstasy at having the Lord as husband to their princess, and a mood of great festivity arises. Mothers' ecstasy frames the wedding; women's joy is named as central.
Reflection Questions
  • Where do you center women's joy in your celebrations?
  • How does mothers' delight shape what the union becomes?

When a great son-in-law is gained, the household's women are the first to flower into festival — they hold the household's secret weather, and bhakti pours through them first. Nagnajit's queens' ecstasy is the home's full-bloom moment.
