  • śaṅkha — conchshells
Pāñcajanya is Kṛṣṇa's conch (BG 1.15). Here the city's conches sound. Gauḍīya: śaṅkha-nāda is itself maṅgala; every kṛṣṇa-utsava is opened by conch.
  • dvija - āśiṣaḥ — blessings of the brāhmaṇas
Compound dvija (twice-born) + āśiṣ (blessing). Brāhmaṇa-blessings sanctify the marriage. Gauḍīya: bhakti uses, not bypasses, the brāhmaṇa's office; vidhi and rasa coexist.
  • pramuditāḥ — joyful
Past participle of pra + √mud — fully gladdened. Gauḍīya: the people's joy is itself a form of worship; bhakti spreads from the bride and groom outward to the whole city's nervous system.
  • srak - alaṅkṛtāḥ — adorned with garlands
Compound srak (garland) + alaṅkṛta (ornamented). The city's ornaments are not gold but garlands — the visible signs of festival. Gauḍīya: bhakti's ornaments are organic — fresh, perishable, replaced daily.
Conchshells, horns and drums resounded, along with vocal and instrumental music and the sounds of brāhmaṇas, invoking blessings. The joyful men and women adorned themselves with fine clothing and garlands.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Conchshells, horns and drums resounded, along with vocal and instrumental music and the sounds of brāhmaṇas, invoking blessings. The joyful men and women adorned themselves with fine clothing and garlands.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

The various sounds of conches etc. helped produce the festivity mentioned in the previous verse. The instruments accompanied the singing with rhythm. Dancing was also present. This produced joy in the men and women who were wearing fine clothing, garlands and ornaments such as earrings.

Concepts
Jiva

Reflection Questions
  • Where could your celebrations engage multiple sensory channels at once?
  • What single sensory upgrade would lift a coming event?

When the gods are pleased, even the air takes on rhythm — shells, drums, voices stack into one festival sound. Bhāgavatam paints the sonic body of bhakti at the bridal moment.
