O husband .
  • yadu - nandana — O descendant of Yadu
Compound yadu + nandana (joy). The king addresses Kṛṣṇa by His clan-name — placing the marriage in family register. Gauḍīya: nandana means delight; Kṛṣṇa is the delight of His family, even before becoming the delight of His bride.
  • śriyaḥ - pate — O Lord of Śrī
Vocative compound — husband of Lakṣmī. The king names what Kṛṣṇa already is. Gauḍīya: the bride is being given to one who already has Lakṣmī; no rivalry can arise because the throne is fixed.
  • abhimataḥ — the appropriate bridegroom
From abhi + √man — agreed-upon. Repeats verse 36's abhimatam — first the bride's mind found Him agreeable, now the father's. Both yes-es line up. Gauḍīya: bhakti's consent is layered; family yes and personal yes both.
If You can subdue them, O descendant of Yadu, You will certainly be the appropriate bridegroom for my daughter, O Lord of Śrī.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
If You can subdue them, O descendant of Yadu, You will certainly be the appropriate bridegroom for my daughter, O Lord of Śrī.
Commentary

In this sentence yad means "if," or more correcly "because." "Because you control the seven bulls, you can marry my daughter." By addressing Krsna as the master of Laksmi, he declares that Krsna is her husband, since he can control the bulls. He had kept the bulls just to be killed by Krsna as they were inimical to him.

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Yadi indicates certainty as in the following. Dhatse padaṁ tvam avitā yadi vighna-mūrddhni: because you are the direct protector of your devotee, he is able to step over the head of whatever obstacle the demigods place before him. (SB 11.4.10) You will certainly subdue the bulls. Or, since you will subdue the bulls, you will be the appropriate groom. You alone are suitable since others will not be able to do this because the bulls are strong and the bulls cannot harm you because of they are only bulls. In order to fulfill our desires and our promise, you should do this. You should also do this to give joy to the Yadus (yadu-nandana).

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

O joy of the Yadus! You should to this to give joy to the Yadus. O husband of Lakṣmī! I agree to this because you are the master of Lakṣmī. By subduing the bulls, you have permission to take my daughter. Or you are the appropriate groom since you are the husband of Rukmiṇī.

If You subdue them, You will be the appropriate bridegroom for my daughter, O Lord of Śrī. The condition is plainly stated; success means yes.
Reflection Questions
  • Where could a clearly stated condition simplify your decisions?
  • How does mutual transparency steady commitment?

A king's offer is conditioned by a single 'if' — and yet to the supreme Lord every 'if' is already a 'when'. Nagnajit's hypothetical is, from the cosmic side, a fact already in motion.
