Commentary
The demon was famous (vai) as Baka. It was huge in body and in cruelty (mahān), with the form of a crane. This form was permanent for the demon. Though this was so, and, though he had a very sharp beak which was very strong to do his evil work, he could just get Kṛṣṇa in his mouth, but he could do nothing more than that. This was the will of Kṛṣṇa, whose name means” he who is famous as the great ocean of variegated, inconceivable pastimes”.

Personal Guidance
Bakāsura disguises himself as a sweet, harmless duck — and swallows Kṛṣṇa whole. The most dangerous influences in our lives often arrive in soft, attractive forms, not in obvious threats.
Reflection Questions
- Which 'duck-shaped' influence in my life right now is more dangerous than it appears?
- Where am I tolerating something charming because it does not look like a demon?
