The father of Nābhāga said: Whatever the great sages sacrificed in the arena of the Dakṣa-yajña, they offered to Lord Śiva as his share. Therefore, everything in the sacrificial arena certainly belongs to Lord Śiva.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The father of Nābhāga said: The remnants of whatever the great sages sacrificed in the arena of the Dakṣa-yajña are the share of Śiva. But actually everything belongs to him. The father spoke. Dakṣādhvare uccheṣana-bhāgaḥ vai rudre: in the Dakṣa sacrifice the remnants belong to Śiva. However, everything belongs to him, what to speak of the remnants of the sacrifice.
The father tells Nābhāga that all sacrifice remnants — and really everything — belong to Lord Śiva. Some things our short memory forgets belong to deities older than our claim to them.
Reflection Questions
  • What am I treating as 'mine' that actually belongs to a deity, an ancestor, or the temple?
  • Where in my home or work am I unknowingly using someone else's offering?
