Translation
From Timi will come Bṛhadratha; from Bṛhadratha, Sudāsa; and from Sudāsa, Śatānīka. From Śatānīka will come Durdamana, and from him will come a son named Mahīnara. From Bṛhadratha will come Sudāsa, and from Sudāsa will come Śatānīka.
Bṛhadratha, Sudāsa, Śatānīka, Durdamana, Mahīnara — the line keeps coming. Names of the very ordinary continue to appear right next to names of the famous — both go on.
Reflection Questions
  • Where am I treating my anonymity as a problem when scripture treats it as the standard?
  • What would 'an ordinary name well-lived' look like in my case?
