Translation
From Ripuñjaya came a son named Bahuratha. Purumīḍha (Ajamīḍha’s brother) was sonless. Ajamīḍha had a son named Nīla by his wife known as Nalinī, and the son of Nīla was Śānti. Other lines from Ajamīḍha are now described, starting with his son Nīla.
Purumīḍha was sonless; Ajamīḍha has Nīla by Nalinī, then Śānti. Not every line continues — and the Bhāgavatam lets us hold both fertility and barrenness as part of one larger arrangement.
Reflection Questions
  • How am I holding the simultaneous fact that some lines continue and some do not?
  • Where am I making someone's barrenness into a moral verdict it does not deserve?
