Having spoken thus, King Rantideva, although on the verge of death because of thirst, gave his own portion of water to the caṇḍāla without hesitation, for the King was naturally very kind and sober.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Having spoken thus, King Rantideva, although on the verge of death because of thirst, gave his own portion of water to the caṇḍāla, for the King was naturally very kind and wise.
Although on the verge of death, Rantideva hands over his water without hesitation. The moment of final desperation is also the moment of greatest opportunity for devotional history.
Reflection Questions
  • What 'last cup' in my life am I clutching that, given away, could write something into devotional history?
  • Where is hesitation the only obstacle to a great act?
