The transcendental Supreme Person, the Supersoul of all living entities, who are in different statuses of life, high and low, existed at the end of the millennium, when neither this manifested cosmos nor anything else but Him existed.

Taking the proper position from which to describe the dynasty of Manu, Śukadeva Gosvāmī begins by saying that when the entire world is inundated, only the Supreme Personality of Godhead exists, and nothing else. Śukadeva Gosvāmī will now describe how the Lord creates other things, one after another.

— A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The Supreme Person, the soul of all superior and inferior beings, existed at the end of the millennium, when neither this manifested cosmos nor anything else but him existed. In order to understand the topic, he relates in five verses the dynasty of Manu from the beginning of creation, bringing in topics already spoken.
Before time and matter, only the Supreme Person existed — and He still does, as the Supersoul of every being. Behind every story lies the One who never stopped being.
Reflection Questions
  • When I trace my life back, do I terminate at parents and circumstances, or at the puruṣa from whom even those came?
  • What changes today if I remember that the Lord is the witness within me as I act?
