When the demigods and demons saw that Mandara Mountain had been lifted, they were enlivened and encouraged to begin churning again. The mountain rested on the back of the great tortoise, which extended for eight hundred thousand miles like a large island.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
When the devatās and demons saw that Mandara Mountain had been lifted, they were enlivened to churn again. The Lord supported the mountain on his back, which extended for a hundred thousand yojanas. He resembled the great Jambudvīpa situated in the water. Kūrma supported the mountain on his back. He resembled the other great island, Jambudvīpa.
On Kūrma's back, the mountain rested like an island — eight hundred thousand miles wide. What needs an entire civilization is, to the Lord, only a back-scratch. Our largest problems are small enough for Him to carry without strain.
Reflection Questions
  • Which problem am I treating as too big when, from the Lord's perspective, it is just one mountain?
  • How does scale-shifting — His size, not mine — change my emotional weight today?
