O King, when the demigods and demons, by the strength of their arms, rotated Mandara Mountain on the back of the extraordinary tortoise, the tortoise accepted the rolling of the mountain as a means of scratching His body, and thus He felt a pleasing sensation.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead is always the unlimited. Although the Supreme Personality of Godhead, in His body as a tortoise, held on His back the largest of mountains, Mandara-parvata, He did not feel any inconvenience. On the contrary, He apparently felt some itching, and thus the rotation of the mountain was certainly very pleasing.

Translation
O King! When the devatās and demons, by the strength of their arms, rotated Mandara Mountain, the tortoise accepted the rolling of the mountain as a means of scratching his body. The rotating of the very heavy mountain on his back did not give Kūrma pain, but rather was pleasurable for him.
The rolling mountain felt to Kūrma like a pleasant scratch. What was crushing labor for the demigods was enjoyable for the Lord. Our service is not a burden He grudgingly accepts; it is a relief He actually enjoys.
Reflection Questions
  • Do I serve as if helping a tired Lord, or as a child entertaining a delighted parent?
  • What activity, hard for me, might actually be His pleasure if I keep doing it?
