The demigods and demons were frustrated and disheartened, and their arms, thighs and shoulders were broken. Therefore the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who knows everything, appeared there on the back of His carrier, Garuḍa.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The Supreme Lord, understanding that they were all discouraged, with broken arms, legs and shoulders, appeared there riding on Garuḍa. Babhūva means “he made his appearance.”
Crushed, broken, frustrated — and only then did the Lord appear, riding Garuḍa. Often the Lord waits for the end of our self-effort before stepping in. Brokenness is not the obstacle; it is the appointed moment of His arrival.
Reflection Questions
  • Where am I still relying on my arms, thighs, and shoulders before allowing the Lord to come?
  • What recent 'breaking' might actually be the prelude to His appearance, not a sign of His absence?
