the golden mountain known as Mandara.
The mountain known as Mandara, which was extremely heavy, being made of gold, fell and smashed many demigods and demons.

By constitution, gold is heavier than stone. Since Mandara Mountain was made of gold and was therefore heavier than stone, the demigods and demons could not properly carry it to the Ocean of Milk.

Translation
The golden mountain, falling down, crushed many devatās and demons with its heavy weight. The mountain is called kanaka acala, or “golden mountain.” Acala also means immovable. Because of the weight of the gold, the mountain could not be moved. Gold is heavier than stones.
The golden mountain fell and crushed many demigods and demons. Spiritual undertakings, mishandled, can hurt the very people trying to do them. Heavy things require not only enthusiasm but the right method and the right helper.
Reflection Questions
  • What 'heavy' spiritual project have I tried to carry with mere enthusiasm rather than method?
  • Whom have I unintentionally hurt because I would not pause to seek proper guidance?
