approached.
The demigods approached Bali Mahārāja, the son of Virocana, and sat down near him. Bali Mahārāja was protected by the commanders of the demons and was most opulent, having conquered the entire universe.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The devatās approached seated Bali, the son of Virocana, who had conquered all directions, who was surrounded by the highest luxury, and who was protected by the commanders of the demons. Bali had conquered all directions (jitāśeṣam).
The demigods approached Bali, who though their adversary was opulent and protected. They went humbly to the one who had defeated them. Sometimes the path forward requires entering the territory of those we have lost to.
Reflection Questions
  • Whom have I been avoiding because admitting their current advantage would humble me?
  • What can be gained by graciously sitting near someone who currently has the upper hand?
